How you can help LCHS
Dedicated people volunteer their time and energy to exercise and groom dogs at the shelter. We would love to have you join our team and participate in the rehabilitation progress of assisting all our animals to be placed in their forever home.
Here is a list of volunteer opportunities along with a brief description:
- Cat Activity Volunteer: Play & socialize with cats/kittens. Can be under the age of 16, but must be accompanied by an adult if under the age of 14.
- Animal Activities Dog Trainer/Walker Volunteer: Train and walk dogs according to the developed training plan set in place by shelter staff. Dog Trainers/Walkers must be 16 years of age or older.
- Cleaning Assistant Volunteer: Assist animal care staff with daily cleaning of cages, kennels, washing food dishes and other shelter space. Must be 14 years of age or older.
- Event Planning Volunteer: Assist shelter staff and/or Board of Directors in various fundraisers. Must be 16 years of age, or older.
- Foster Care Volunteer: Foster “parents” are volunteers that take kittens or cats and provide them with a temporary home and care for them until they are ready for adoption. Must be over the age of 18.
- Grooming Aide Volunteer: Assist shelter staff in the grooming/bathing of adoptable animals. Must be 14 years of age or older, if younger must be with an adult.
- Outreach Volunteer: Assist shelter staff in showcasing adoptable animals at various business establishments. Must be 16 years or older and be able to commit to one Saturday each month.
- Play/Activity Dog Volunteer: Play with dogs in outside enclosed area, off leash. Can be under the age of 16, but must be accompanied by an adult if under age 14.
- Yard Maintenance Volunteer: Monthly maintenance of shelter grounds. Can be preformed as a youth group, individual, local business or organization.
All volunteers are required to attend a General Volunteer Orientation, which is given the last Wednesday of each month, at 5:45 pm at the shelter by Jo Bristow, Volunteer Coordinator.
